The rate of gas production from the propellant is suitable for cartridges like the 300 Blackout, 7.62×39, 30/30, and 22 Hornet, as well as many other cartridges used in lever-action pistols and rifles. It burns at a similar rate to Accurate 1680.

The development of this propellant was driven by the need to ensure compatibility with the 300 Blackout’s many heavy subsonic rounds. In AR systems, cycling is made possible by a particular combination of charge weight, shape, and chemistry; this is most useful for bullets weighing 200 grains or more. The 300 Blackout can shoot smaller supersonic rounds despite being intended for use with larger projectiles. Loaders, on the other hand, have a higher rate of success when employing SOCOM in conjunction with supersonic projectiles. The propellant is a ball-shaped projectile that can be metered precisely using charge plates and loaded rapidly using a high-speed loader. Propellant is designed to dampen flashes to some extent.
