The Alliant Steel brand was introduced to the public for the first time in 1998. Steel raised the performance standard for steel-shot waterfowl loads. This powder has an extremely slow burn rate, even lagging behind the industry standard for steel-shooting chargers, Blue Dot. When carrying heavy loads, this low rate of burn is the most reliable. Hevi-Shot, ITX, and other high-performance, non-toxic hunting loads have found a new use for steel in recent years. Similarly to Unique, Alliant advises against scaling it through cover because of its fluffy nature.

STEEL gives the highest velocities possible with magnum 12 gauge shells. The smell of this powder in the morning is unbelievably delicious.

I have used this powder since it came out. It gives higher velocities than blue dot or the IMR powders. It seems to be more consistent in the often sub-zero temps in late season. When used with BPI shot and wads it is a lethal combo for any waterfowl try it.
